With the 2022 Winter Olympics underway, it’s impossible not to feel inspired and awed by the athletes and their talents. Look no further for our top tips on how to become a professional skier and maybe one day, stand on the podium next to your favorite athletes.

Speaking of the winter Olympics, U.S. Ski and Snowboard announced that HomeLight, a real estate technology platform, is a title sponsor of the HomeLight Foundation Series. This foundation works as a catalyst to launch the careers of top athletes within winter sports. We hope you get inspired watching these athletes hit the halfpipe and catch big air when you aim for gold yourself.

    Practice

The first and most obvious place you need to begin to make it big as a professional skier is to practice, practice, and then practice some more. To become a pro at anything, you must eat, sleep, and breathe the sport.

A great way to get loads of practice is by taking the job of teaching others how to improve. Try living and working at a ski resort and becoming a ski instructor. This subsequently will get you lots of mountain time for free. Dedication is key to becoming a pro skier! You should have hours spent on the slopes daily to reach your goal of becoming a professional.

    Compete

Next, you need to compete if you want to make it pro. As a skier, your livelihood depends on competitions and winning those competitions. Start small with local, friendly competitions, and move up to more larger-scale ones once you’ve got some wins under your belt. Competitions are the best way to get your name out there and get noticed by sponsors.

A great way to start entering competitions includes joining a ski league, camp, or tournament. These types of groups not only help you hone your skills with drills and learning from others, but they also are a great place to find competitions if you’re new to the competitive ski world.

    Get Noticed

Speaking of getting noticed, that’s our final step to becoming a skier at a professional level. Put yourself in front of professional coaches by utilizing an online presence. Post videos of your skills on social media and share your posts with sought-after coaches around the world. Working with a skilled, known coach can be a huge break in your ski career as they can take you to the next level and help you become the professional you’ve always dreamed of.

Other things to consider when looking for a sponsor include:

    • Create a unique ride style that stands out from other athletes
    • Ride in contests where sponsors will be scouting new talent
    • Shoot photos and videos of yourself, but don’t push them down sponsors throats
    • Focus on yourself and your skills and good things will come

We hope you’ve found these tips and tricks for becoming a professional skier helpful and inspiring. Don’t give up on your dreams, before you know it, you’ll be going for gold!
