Conditions That Can Benefit From Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine

The neuromusculoskeletal system comprises the nerves, bones, skull, spine, and muscles, and all these elements are connected and work together. A problem in these areas may result in back pain, multiple sclerosis, sciatica, arthritis, and substance abuse. Thanks to West New York NJ, neuromusculoskeletal medicine, experts can now improve your bodily functions without using the medication as primary treatment. It is a hands-on approach that specialists use to address different physical and mental problems and for people of all ages. The following are medical problems that can benefit from this treatment approach.

    Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis develops when there is less renewal of bone tissue than the one wearing out. The result is weak and brittle bones that can easily fracture even when bending. Osteoporosis is common among older adults and can affect any bones in your body, but the commonly affected areas include the hips, spine, and wrist. Most osteoporosis patients experience no symptoms at the onset of the illness, but the following signs and symptoms manifest over time.

    • Bones that are easy to break
    • Loss of height
    • Back pain
    • A bent posture

Osteoporosis is more susceptible in people with thyroid problems, eating disorders, less calcium intake, and a sedentary lifestyle.

    Back pain

Back pain can develop due to different reasons, such as an injury or maybe a sign of an underlying health problem. The most common cause for back pain is poor posture which causes muscle and ligament strain. Most people with back pain get better with home remedies such as over-the-counter medication, exercises, and hot or cold compresses. However, sometimes the pain may worsen or fail to improve, making it essential to visit your doctor. Although back pain does not signify a serious problem, medical attention is necessary to avoid complications such as physical impairment.

    Anxiety disorder

It is typical of human beings to get worried or anxious during particular events such as preparing for a job interview or joining a new school. However, excessive worry that compromises your mental health and gets in the way of your daily activities is not normal. People with anxiety disorder have constant concerns about everyday events. Panic attacks are common in people with anxiety disorders and can be described as a sudden heightened fear that quickly peaks. If you have anxiety, you may also experience symptoms such as increased heart rate, sweating, trembling, restlessness, and difficulty sleeping.

    Irritable bowel syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome is a digestive disorder that affects the large intestines and causes bloating, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Most people with irritable bowel syndrome can manage their dietary changes, but a few experience severe symptoms. Patients with severe signs and symptoms usually need medication to alleviate the effects. Although the disease does not cause changes in bowel tissue, seek immediate help if you have signs such as:

    • Rectal bleeding
    • Weight loss
    • Anemia
    • Vomiting
    • Diarrhea
    • Difficulty swallowing

A spectrum of diseases can benefit from neuromusculoskeletal medicine besides those listed above. If you have further questions about this treatment method, consult with your specialist at The Doctor’s House.
