Effective Ways To Stay Healthy In The Workplace Year-Round

Despite research showing the importance of sleep and work-life balance, the vast majority of people still spend more time in the office than anywhere else. This leaves you with little time for other activities and likely to be stressed for much of the time.

Continuous stress contributes towards an array of diseases and the long hours can have other detrimental effects on your health.

It’s important to reduce working hours and find ways to stay healthy at work.

    Avoid Sitting All Day

When you have a lot of work to get through it’s easy to sit at your desk and just keep going. Unfortunately, this isn’t good for you. Most people, even those that think about posture, will spend some of the day slouching. This places pressure on the spine and can even increase the risk of piles.

Sitting slows your metabolism and means you are more likely to gain weight, potentially leading to an array of other issues.

The best way to combat that is to move around at least once every hour. You can walk up and down the stairs, job on the spot, or simply do some stretching exercises.

    Stay Hydrated

Another thing that is often overlooked in the workplace is drinking enough, particularly drinking water. The best way to increase your water intake is to keep a bottle on your desk and perhaps convince the boss to add a water dispensing system to your office. Anything that reminds you to drink and makes it easy to do so, is a benefit.

However, you should note that not all water is created equal. Even the water from the faucet can carry contaminants and pollutants. That’s why it’s best to get a filter fitted into the water system.

You can speak to the specialists in ro water regarding a reverse osmosis filtration system which is capable of removing most contaminants. You’ll notice the taste difference.

    Think About Food

Eating a large meal at lunchtime will leave you feeling full and possibly sleepy for the afternoon. It’s better to eat several smaller meals throughout the day. This gives you a break from work and can help you to eat healthier.

Of course, you need to choose healthy foods for your daily food consumption. But, with a little bit of planning, this is generally easier than you think. In fact, t’s a good idea to pre-plan your meals and even cook them in advance. This approach makes it easier to stick to a plan, even when you have limited time.

    Get your Sleep

Your sleep is often one of the first things to suffer when you’re working long hours and trying to fit everything in. However, sleep is when you recharge your batteries, your mind processes the events of the day, ad your body heals itself.

Failing to get enough sleep can affect your health, as well as your ability to concentrate. This can cause problems at home and at work. Yet, they can be easily avoided by getting enough sleep.
