Top 4 Conditions that Demand Circumcision

Circumcision is a surgical operation that removes the foreskin or a fold of skin from the head of the penis. It’s primarily performed on boys who are under 18 months old for religious purposes. Some medical conditions also demand circumcision, which we will discuss later in this post.

A Circumcision Urologist Brooklyn might recommend doing circumcision for various reasons. In this article, we will discuss the top four conditions that demand circumcision.

    • Balanitis

This is an infection of the foreskin or the head of the penis. It can be caused by bacteria, viruses, and even fungi. It’s a condition that needs to be treated quickly to avoid complications such as inflammation, swelling of the penis, painful urination, and other nasty stuff. Balanitis is more common among uncircumcised men because it’s easier for bacteria to cling to the skin if you don’t retract the foreskin when cleaning your genital organ. Healthy hygiene habits will dramatically reduce your chances of getting balanitis.

    • Balanoposthitis

Balanoposthitis is the swelling of the foreskin. This condition can be caused by inflammation of the foreskin, but it can also be caused by other problems. The most common cause is infection. In this condition, the foreskin becomes swollen and painful. Sores may appear on the skin, and they can look very unhealthy. Balanoposthitis must be treated quickly because if left untreated, symptoms will worsen and may require surgery.

    • Phimosis

Phimosis is a condition in which the foreskin cannot be retracted normally. The foreskin becomes swollen so much that it cannot be retracted fully. If you try to do it, you may experience a burning sensation and pain. If you don’t retract the foreskin, bacteria may seek shelter on the skin of your penis, and that could cause infection. Once an infection sets in, it’s best to call a urologist and get circumcision done to prevent complications, such as spreading herpes.

    • Paraphimosis

In paraphimosis, the foreskin is retracted, but the phimotic ring gets trapped behind the corona of the glans in such a way that it can’t be returned to its original position. You will feel pain if this happens, and it could cause priapism. This condition may require emergency treatment or surgery. Circumcision is often recommended as a treatment for paraphimosis in order to free the foreskin and prevent dangerous complications, such as gangrene or other infections.
