Cancer is a medical condition in which the growth of cells becomes uncontrollable. If it happens in the prostate, it is known as prostate cancer. After skin cancer, it is the most common cancer in men. It has been shown in the study that most men live with this cancer for more than five years, while some may die due to other medical conditions apart from having prostate cancer. The treatment for Kingston prostate cancer is available with a specialist who should be contacted if you start getting the symptoms.

    Who is at the risk?

The prostate is the reproductive system in males. 13 out of every 100 men will get this cancer and 2-3 die of this medical condition. Older men have a higher risk of getting this cancer than younger ones. Some men with a family history of this cancer are more at risk. Apart from this, if any female of the family has breast, ovarian, or pancreatic cancer, the men are at risk of getting prostate cancer.

    Symptoms of prostate cancer

It is highly recommended to get in touch with your doctor if you experience the following symptoms:

    • Frequent urination at night
    • Difficulty urinating
    • Interrupted or weak flow of urine
    • Burning sensation or pain while passing the urine.
    • Consistent pain in the pelvis, back, and hips
    • Pain during ejaculation
    • Presence of blood in semen or urine
    • Difficulty in emptying the bladder

The doctor may perform some more tests to rule out the possibility of the presence of any other disease and confirm prostate cancer.

Should you get a PSA done?

Older men may undergo prostate screening antigen tests to know the status. However, it is imperative to discuss it with your healthcare provider and know the pros and cons of this test. Additionally, men over 70 years of age should get screening done on a regular basis.

    Merits and demerits of PSA

A number of pros and cons are associated with prostate screening antigen tests.

    Pros

    • A person gets to know if he has this cancer or not
    • If a man is suffering from prostate cancer, he can get the treatment at the right time. It will prevent it from spreading.

    Cons

Sometimes a person does not have prostate cancer, but the PSA may be false. However, the person has to undergo a prostate biopsy, which may give rise to more complications.

It is suggested to contact a specialist who can guide you better if you experience any of the symptoms.
